The museum was inaugurated in 2009 and is considered one of the best of its kind in the world. It is structured around a concrete core with the same dimensions as the Parthenon frieze and is supported on pillars which rise up from among the antiquities. In many places the floors are transparent, so that the excavation sites can be seen easily.

You will see:

3 levels of archaeological remains: From the slopes of the Sacred Rock of the Acropolis, from the archaic era of Athens (7th century BC - 480 BC) and from the excavations and renovations which have been undertaken on the monuments of the Acropolis.

- The Archaic Gallery, where for the first time you will be able to walk round the exhibits and admire them from all angles as they are free-standing. On the south side of the hall, the richness of the architectural sculptures and the votive offerings, such as the statues of young women (the Korai), the horse riders (the Hippeis) and other exhibits give us an excellent and impressive picture of the Acropolis in the Archaic period.

- On the third floor you can see what the sculptural decoration of the Parthenon actually looked like, as you can see the original fronts and pediments of the temple, together with copies of the carved marbles which were taken to foreign museums or destroyed.
